I love period dramas and period costumes but you're right, they are easier to design because you can do so much research into the fashion of the past - the construction is the challenge. Kurland did such an amazing job creating individual looks for everyone - like, you couldn't put Eames in Arthur's clothes and Arthur couldn't slip into Fischer's - and its a shame that he's been overlooked for more showier period and fantasy costumes.
Yeah, Cobb looks so American and yet it's such a subtle thing; you can't easily look at the individual pieces and point out what makes them American but you still get this overwhelming impression of his American-ness.
Ha, that NY Mag article was so flip - they really put the hard yards in with the research by asking their friends about fashion trends! She looks like an art student to me too.
