Came upon this randomly, and I really wanted to say thanks for posting as it gave me much more understanding and insight of not just the clothes but also how they had influenced my thoughts on the characters without me even noticing.
I'm not fantastic with fashion, and clothing isn't generally something that really jumps out at me when watching a film. I did however find it extremely interesting to read your post and note how the green/purple colour scheme and high-collared cape when we first see Mal immediately put us in mind of a wicked witch a la Disney, and how the simple elegance and muted colours in the rest of her clothes fit well with a woman who has (presumably) grown up in France.
I also loved your comments on Arthur and Eames as they highlighted very well a few of my pet peeves in regards to how they're portrayed in fanfiction.
