Ugh, I so agree about "cold, emotionally repressed" Arthur. I mean, I can see him having some issues with being in a relationship mostly because, well, he is in an illegal career so needing to be careful with who he trusts and being used to watching his back makes sense. However, that is something totally different and canon really doesn't support "cold" or "repressed" for his personality. He is too open with his emotions--he was obviously pissed at Nash for screwing up, clearly upset when Cobb started yelling at him and he definitely showed concern for Ariadne when she had that nasty wake-up early in the movie, and didn't bother to hide or disguise any of these reactions. Also, c'mon, Arthur with Ariadne on that second level? Does not say "repression" to me. Someone actually did a pretty nice meta post of this a while back, I wish I could find it. Sorry that I'm kinda spamming your journal like this, I'm just happy to find someone who likewise disagrees with those bits of fanon.
