Turns out it was too good to be true

Attention everyone: the Apocalypse snuck up on us over Easter.

The end is nigh. Be on the look out for four horsemen. I am outraged. I am sad. I am confused.

Why would somebody do this?

WHY????

Why would you remake the awesome 10 things I hate about you into a crappy TV show ten years after it was released? I do not understand.

The girl who plays Kat does not look capable of kicking a guy in the balls and then saying that he kicked himself in the balls. The boy who plays Patrick looks like a Jonas brother. And Bianca? How dare you replace Alex Mack! SHE HAS A SECRET WORLD! (Is that show on DVD yet?) Bogey Lowenstein isn't even mentioned in the new cast list - will Nigel still bring the brie?!

Why yes I have seen this movie 9 million times. How did you guess?

How can they top this moment:

The real rub of it all? The TV show is being directed by the same guy who directed the movie. Kat's father is being played by the same actor too.

Still, it's going to be wretched. For those of you who want to rewatch the film it's here on YT. For me, this will always be Heath Ledger's best work.

There was also a Ferris Bueller TV series. (As well as the late, great "Parker Lewis Can't Lose.")

And I know this sounds sacrilegious, but I think it'd be possible to make an awesome TV series out of "The Breakfast Club."

So, "10 Things"... I dunno. In the right hands: potentially awesome with the awesome potential of all cracktastic sequels. More likely though, you're right, and it will be horrible, and we can all take consolation in the fact that it will be quickly canceled. =)

What the what?! My innocence, it lies in tatters.

A group of disparate teen stereotypes brought together and forced to interact on a weekly basis - I'd actually love that.

I think that 10 things I hate about money grubbing TV networks is only going to be about 10 episodes long. But where's the suspense? We know they're going to get together and I highly doubt that the new actors will offer a more interesting take on the characters than the originals.

I get so frustrated with remakes. Why not use all that money and talent to create something new?

*Icon explanation: From the BBC's rather wonderful modern retelling of The Taming of the Shrew. I do love this sort of project normally. This new remake just gets my hackles up - it smacks of cashing in rather than creativity.

The "Ferris Bueller" series was only about half a season long, iirc. Everyone was too busy watching "Parker Lewis" to really notice.

But where's the suspense? We know they're going to get together and I highly doubt that the new actors will offer a more interesting take on the characters than the originals.

Well, if I ran the circus, this is how I would do it:

1) Start the the "10 Things" series after the end of the movie, like BtVS. Otherwise, yes. Why bother? You're dooming yourself before you even start.

1) Watch every movie version ever made. Take copious notes.

2) It's been a while since I saw "10 Things," but in the remake, I'm pretty sure the two romantic leads are only dating. Also, it's not the Renaissance. This can lead to no end of problems.

3) Go back to the Shakespeare play; take a long and squinty-eyed look at everything. Find dangling plot threads, especially involving characters who are not Katrina or Petrucchio.

4) Go to the library, pick up every edition of the play, and read only the footnotes.

5) Decide that Bianca is secretly a werewolf.

5) Decide that Bianca is secretly a werewolf.

Now that I would watch.

Oh, the "Ferris Bueller" TV Show. I didn't hate it because I didn't hate Charlie Schlatter. And you can't knock Jennifer Aniston as the bitchy sister.

I LOVED "PARKER LEWIS CAN'T LOSE"! Is that on DVD yet?

Also, I need you guys to know that I am probably interviewing with the casting directors who work on this show next week and if it goes well I could be working on this and their other shows. Sorry.

Ben, I've heard it's not bad. I actually have a copy of the pilot, but my boss took it home for the weekend. I will make sure to get it from her Monday and watch it and report back.

I went to school with Charlie Schlatter. But I still liked Parker Lewis better. I had a ridiculous crush on Frank Lemmer.

I saw a preview for "10 Things" at the movies this weekend, and it still looks horrible. I hope you're right, and it's just being badly marketed.

Good luck with your interviews! Perhaps you can subtly suggest some changes... :D

DO NOT APOLOGIZE! That would be so awesome for you! I really hope you get it. I'm so impressed with the way you're handling yourself out there - you're really making it happen for yourself.

Considering the dearth of decent TV at the moment I'm really hoping that this is good so I can add it to my small rotation. Let me know what you think of it.
