Is The O.C. giving VM a shout out?
So Fox sends me an email each month telling me about their shows.
I clicked on The O.C. and they had the cover art for the 5th sound track.
And I discovered what was either a shout out to VM or another case of the two shows doubling up.
As you can see, it clearly says "GO PIRATES!"
So we have a couple of options:
1. Harbor also has a football/soccer/basketball/baseball/water polo team who are called the pirates. Ok. Except I don't think I've ever heard about them (bear in mind that I haven't seen the third series yet)
2. It's a shout out to VM.
3. The O.C. is blatantly ripping of a VM catch phrase. Because "Go Pirates" is a VM catch phrase. Veronica has said it at least three times. The pilot, Kanes and Abel's, and Ahoy Mateys. There are signs on the set which say "Go Pirates" and TWoP/Glarkware made up a hoodie which says "Go Pirates" and was done in Neptune High green. Not Harbor red.
That phrase is associated with VM and The OC shouldn't have gone there. Unless they went there first. Still, it is a big part of VM while it has never made an impression on me in The OC. And I'm not saying that The OC isn't allowed to say 'Go Pirates'. Ok. Maybe I am.
Maybe the clever clever artist (not) thought they were giving a subtle shout out to VM. It's not subtle. It was the first thing I noticed. The OC: you were much better with the pop culture references in the first season.
Also Brody and Mackensie look constipated and squinty and Barton looks sun burnt. They should change the pics.
