Yes, it is real. Captain Planet and the Planeteers help out a basketball player (voiced by Neil Patrick Harris) who becomes HIV positive, and his mother, who seems to run some sort of organic vegetable stall (voiced by Elizabeth Taylor, natch). By turns, it's hilarious and awesome and heartbreaking and ridiculous.
(Also, I totally don't remember Linka being from Soviet Russia - I thought she was Swedish - but there she is with a red star belt buckle.)
Raise your hand if you still remember all the words to the theme song. *raises hand*
