Icons

I've been on a bit of an icon making kick lately and this is a real mixed bag.

Where were you in '62? )

Due to some technical difficulties that I hope are finally resolved, I've been having trouble downloading all my shows. Haven't seen The Daily Show or The Colbert Report in aaaaages but I'm now caught up on Studio 60 and The Office (US).

Studio 60: 1.02 )

Studio 60: 1.03 )

The Office: 3.02 )

And finally, on friday night I was in the same room as Hugh Jackman and it was awesome. He was, of course, performing in the musical The Boy from Oz which is the story of Australian singer/song writer Peter Allen. Hugh was fantastic - he has such a huge presence on stage. He spent two years here studying at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) so he knows Perth well and littered the show with lots of references and in-jokes, even appearing in the football jersey of one our our state's teams.

The story itself wasn't terribly good (I've seen a lot better), but Hugh more than made up for it, spending about 20 minutes amongst the audience and even dancing with one guy. Truly hilarious.

And when they sang "I still call Australia home" I must confess there were tears in my eyes. The had a huge flag and a choir - it was like a QANTAS ad ;-)

For my fellow Farscape fans, Murray Bartlett who played Crichton's best friend DK, played Peter Allen's lover Greg - no you don't get to see Hugh make out with another guy, they only ever hug ;-)

Here is the Broadway cast recording. Sadly they didn't do an Australian cast recording but this one is still a great listen.

And if you're taking any of the music, can you let me know please? I need to keep track of the bandwith. Thanks.

Farscape

Today...er...yesterday, I finally finished season 4 of Farscape.

I'll try and post more on it later but for now...

What the hell is up with Aeryn's hair in the fourth season?

It gets all long and straight and kinda wig-looking and it freaks me out.

Also, she goes into battle with it down, something that always fills me with a seething rage when I see it on TV (Sydney Bristow is a major offender, Veronica Mars is getting there) because I can not walk around campus with my hair down before it gets all messy, so it really annoys me that they can beat up guys and have their hair come out all neat and shiny at the end.

Ahem.

(I realise this opinion would be easier to understand if there was pictorial evidence but it's late and I can't be bothered. Picspam will come later.)

AND THEN, I went to buy the mini-series and they DID NOT HAVE IT in store!!! So I had to console myself by buying CDs. Many CDs.

I did my bit for Veronica Mars by wearing my brand new-just-arrived-yesterday Visit Neptune T-shirt when I went to the shops.

Though considering I live in Australia and the scheduling information for the show is for the U.S.,  it would appear that my bit for Veronica Mars was very small.

However, it's the thought that counts.

So the latest issue of the Veronica Mars character blog is up over at [profile] neptune_online. Read and enjoy my friends.

A big, huge, oh-my-god-you-saved-my-life thank you to [profile] rindee who wrote the Veronica article at the very last minute when I started to wig out, and who also wrote the Weevil and Wallace pieces. You are so amazing for doing that!

After publishing the edition a couple of hours ago, I actually took some time out, relaxed and watched a movie (the very excellent Night Watch, reviewed by Corny in this edition of [profile] neptune_online) something I haven't done in ages what with school and everything. Will post some more thoughts on the film tomorrow.

Right now, I've got a bunch of VM fics swirling around in my head that I thought of while writing my epic essay on Alexander the Great, so maybe I'll try writing one of those.

And finally, TWoP is going to be recapping Farscape during the summer hiatus. How awesome is that?

Ok so there are only 6 comments over at the brand spankin new [profile] neptune_online but over a hundred people have friended us so methinks that people are reading but just not commenting.

Just so we're clear, commenting? Is awesome. Seriously. Tell us if you love it. Tell us if you don't love it. But tell us something.

Do you know how hard [profile] spadada worked on this thing to get it posted? Really hard is the answer. Like until 3AM in the morning. I know this because we were chatting on AIM with [profile] babsonite and [profile] beppergirl (also two very hard workers on this)  and so I saw how hard everyone worked to make this as fantastic as it is.

So yeah. Comment please. I'd like to hear that we've done good.

And in other news I am not doing that essay which is due next week. Or the other essay that is due next week. Or the power point presentation that is due the week after next (actually I can't work on the power point because the other people in my group havn't sent me their stuff).

I am trying hard not to watch the next episode of Farscape but it is seriously addictive. Maybe I will reward myself with some Farscape once I get one of the essays done (or half done. Or have the introduction written. Or have it planned).

I was watching Pretty in Pink last night and Andi should have gotten together with Steff. Because Steff is cool. And a lot like Logan. And Andi is like Veronica. And Steff is played by James Spader, and Spader is amazing and gorgeous and one of those people I would pay to see reading the telephone book aloud (other people on this list include Jason Dohring and Victor Garber).

Also watched Napoleon Dynamite and Tina Majorino is so freaking adorable in that movie. I really hope that she's in the third season of Veronica Mars (though that would be kinda contrived).

Yep. I'm procrastinating. Will go and do an essay now.
bennet_7: (Sam-embrace the fact)
Much to my sister's horror I've become a fan of Farscape over the past week.

I was never able get into it when it first came on. Though filmed in Australia, with a mostly Aussie cast and crew, the show did really poorly here and had a slew of bad timeslots - notably the '7:30PM-on-a-Saturday timeslot of Doooooom' .

Also, back in 1999, I was 12 and going through this huge Star Wars phase where I rejected all other Sci-fi (except Stargate SG-1).

But I've come to realize the greatness that is Farscape, so in the words of Sam Seaborn, let's forget about the fact that I'm a little late to the party and embrace the idea that I showed up at all.
