Due to some technical difficulties that I hope are finally resolved, I've been having trouble downloading all my shows. Haven't seen The Daily Show or The Colbert Report in aaaaages but I'm now caught up on Studio 60 and The Office (US).
I really enjoyed this episode. It was a much more solid and consistent effort than the pilot. I've gotta say, I love that Danny's in black a lot of the time but Brad Whitford would do well to get his hair coloured a couple of shades darker.
Sarah Paulson has definitely got a handle on the Sorkinese now, but Amanda Peet still seems a little shaky. I loved Nate Corddry as Tom - he was fabulous, especially when he burst into the office with the wig on. I really like Simon as well.
The best part was of course the Gilbert and Sullivan inspired "Model Network TV Show." I wasn't expecting Sorkin to bring the G & S references so soon but I'm glad he did.
You can download the orginal version here and the Studio 60 version here.
With this episode you definitely see a rhythm developing. It was directed by Christopher Misiano, one of my favourite West Wing directors. Finally we're seeing that Jordan's not so organised and in-control as she'd like everyone to believe and I think we needed that. I'm still waiting for her to let lose in a CJ kind of way though.
(Am I the only one thinking Jordan/Danny? Because I think they have good chemistry.)
Speaking of CJ, I was all "hey, West Wing reference!" when Joanie called Matt and Danny "idiot boys" which was how CJ took to addressing Josh, Sam and Toby.
And boy do I want one of those t-shirts. Just have to have one.
Did anyone else see Lucy Davis? She was Dawn (the Pam character) in the original Office. Good to see her finding work in LA even if it was only one line. Hopefully we'll see more of her.
I still think that they are harping on a bit too much about Harriet's religion. She's christian, we get it, move on.
JIM! PAM! TOBY! LOVE TRIANGLE!
ish.
Micheal was kind of heart breaking in this episode, but it is always interesting to me how they make him a good boss occasionally where David Brent in the original never was.
Jim needs to get back to Scranton soon. Drawing out the tension is going to kill us all. But how sweet was he when he started to say "I need to call Pam" and then stopped because he knows he can't.
And finally, on friday night I was in the same room as Hugh Jackman and it was awesome. He was, of course, performing in the musical The Boy from Oz which is the story of Australian singer/song writer Peter Allen. Hugh was fantastic - he has such a huge presence on stage. He spent two years here studying at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) so he knows Perth well and littered the show with lots of references and in-jokes, even appearing in the football jersey of one our our state's teams.
The story itself wasn't terribly good (I've seen a lot better), but Hugh more than made up for it, spending about 20 minutes amongst the audience and even dancing with one guy. Truly hilarious.
And when they sang "I still call Australia home" I must confess there were tears in my eyes. The had a huge flag and a choir - it was like a QANTAS ad ;-)
For my fellow Farscape fans, Murray Bartlett who played Crichton's best friend DK, played Peter Allen's lover Greg - no you don't get to see Hugh make out with another guy, they only ever hug ;-)
Here is the Broadway cast recording. Sadly they didn't do an Australian cast recording but this one is still a great listen.
And if you're taking any of the music, can you let me know please? I need to keep track of the bandwith. Thanks.
