I don't think it was the wisest move either, but I think RT was trying to get back to Pink!Veronica and not the hardened bitter Veronica that we all saw in S1. This way, RT was able to see how the Pink!Veronica of those flashbacks really worked with the crazy PI stories. Not that it worked well all the time, but whatever.
Switching gears--if this same "let's forget about all of the bad shit" happens again with the start of this season, I'll get very mad, very quickly.
