VM fandom: Hooking new people and getting those ratings up for a third season

Fellow Veronica Mars fans please read this post! Tis very, very important!

You may not be aware of the ratings for this season - they're crap. We need more viewers if we are going to get a third season. And you want a third season right?

Then join vm_campaigns. If you don't have a lot of time, there are links to polls you can fill out to let The Powers That Be know that you love this show and you want to see it stick around for a very long time. If you've got a spare 15-30 minutes there are other campaigns you can participate in. It is often as simple as sending a letter to someone.


Every single VM fan should participate in the postcard campaign. Basically you just download the post card, fill it out and send it to TPTB, letting them know you watch the show and how many friends you've hooked. I live in Australia and I've done it.


There is a brand new community that I will be helping out at called vm_blog. What we are trying to do is create a newsletter (or something) in which 'Veronica Mars' characters write about their opinions on movies, books, video games. For example:

Celebrity Gossip Column written by Madison
Advice Column written by Madison
Advice Column written by Logan
Logan's Wisdom of the Week
Review of "Easy Rider" by Logan
Video Game Review by Dick
Fashion Police written by Jackie
Review of Pride and Prejudice by Jackie
Review of Pride and Prejudice by Veronica
Veronica: How to do a 'bump n' bait'
Art review by Corny
Pet care by Mandy
Cars and Motorcycles by Weevil
Sports Column by Wallace
Something by Cassidy (how to apply eyeliner, perhaps?)

(None of these ideas have been taken yet, so if you have an interest in one of them, go for it!)

We are going to try to use this to hook new viewers. We hope that if they see how cool our characters are, they might be willing to check out our show.

So we need the many awesome fic writers in the fandom to help out and write the articles (I'm looking quite specifically at a couple of you). It will certainly be a different challenge to what you are used to but I'll be putting my editing units to good work, and be helping y'all out.

Finally, if you are trying to hook a friend into the show, the best place to send them is Mars Investigations. You can set the filter to the last episode you have seen and have no fear of coming across spoilery material.


So yeah. Let's not let them cancel our show. And now I must go watch episode 2.17 again.

Alright, so my back hurts and I am crazy for spending so much time making a test post that is going to mean NOTHING once we get an awesome designer to make a custom layout for us, but I just wanted to give you guys and idea of what I am picturing... I am thinking we need a layout with some crazy awesome header (all the possible contributors?), a banner with the navigator logo for the title of every issue, a default icon that we use every time, pics a little bigger than userpics (maybe 200x200?) of every possible contributor that are used each time that writer contributes, etc. Anyway...

So I created the account and made it paid for the first 2 months. (If we change the name we can pay $15 for a namechange token - whatev). So go check out neptune_online and tell me what you think.

I will follow this post with the password in case you want to play around with it. But I will delete that post. I will leave this one in case you want to respond. Umm, YAAAAY!

Yay! You work very fast!

One thing the layout header must have and it must be in huge print is: "This is a FAN PRODUCED blog and thus UNOFFICIAL. We are making NO PROFIT from this and are only doing it to bring in new viewers. No copyright infringment is intended."


I've been studying copyright laws in my editing unit and they scare me but with that kind of disclaimer I think we'd be ok.

So, to submit something... do I just post it to VM blogs... or do I actually have to submit it somewhere to be judged and deemed worthy?
I'm working on a piece today, haven't decided what yet, and I'd like to not mess up by posting it before it's been ok'd.
