I have had a thing for Balkonsky for forever. So did all the girls I knew growing up. It's one of those books you read and swoon over :P
Indeed. Read, swoon, and then raise your fists to the sky and cry about why he had to die. It's not that I don't like Pierre, I do, but Andrei is my favourite. But it's been awhile since I read the book - I think I'll re-read after I'm done with my Elizabeth Gaskell binge.
