And then the Doctor did return to television and all was right with the world.

Not a great episode but a good one. I always have low expectations for RTD written episodes so at least here I was pleasantly surprised.

The highlights:

-Catherine Tate was excellent. Donna was sympathetic, entertaining, and competent - and she obviously won't be falling in love with the Doctor.

-The mime bit reminded me greatly of another Tennant/RTD production, Casanova. In that, Giacomo and his lady love would talk across crowded rooms by mouthing words and using their hands, being completely adorable. It was still well executed here, though perhaps it dragged on a little too much.

-The Doctor being merciful FTW! He told Miss Foster he was only going to give her one chance but then he tried to save her again when she was in the tractor beam. Hopefully this is a sign that he won't be quite so emo.

-The Doctor admitted he was a right bastard to Martha. This is currently making the fandom very happy.

-David Tennant really is terribly attractive in this role. The scruffy hair, the glasses, the manic energy - good lord I wanted to make out with the laptop. It's funny because I was watching Tennant in He Knew He Was Right earlier this evening and I didn't fancy him at all.

-ROSE! OMG! Didn't expect her in this episode at all. And then she disappeared. Awesome.

-Donna's comment about Egypt? So true.

The lowlights:

-The dialog was a bit patchy in places. Donna's conversation with her Grandfather, while a lovely scene, did feature some clunkers.

-The fat Furbys looked stoopid.

Gah! I want the next episode now! Doctor Who I love you!

I liked the comment about Martha, too. He gained some of the crap back for it.

The fandom's reaction to that comment has amused me. For most, it has absolved him of all his actions last season.
