On Sunday I had work in the morning. In the afternoon, and then the evening, I got together with my three best friends from primary school so we could exchange christmas presents. We had an awesome time.

We ate and we talked and we played board games and we went out for dinner and then we went out for ice cream. It was great to catch up.

Later they were all complaining about how over-protective their parents were. I realised (again) that I've got it pretty good with mine. I think they trust enough in my anti-socialness to know that I would never go out too much and for too long. It also helps that I refuse to drink alcohol on any occasion.

I wonder how many other people are still close friends with people they went to primary school with?

I met Micky at pre-primary school. I met Sarah at my next door neighbour's house before year 1 started. I met Jayde at primary school.

I think one of the reasons our friendship has remained so close is that we all didn't go to the same high school.

I went to the local public high school (despite being government it was a really good school).

Micky and Jayde both went to the local Seventh Day Adventist school, though neither of them are religious.

Sarah went to one of the most expensive private schools in the state. $10,000 a year.

I think that because we all wern't together, we didn't have to deal with the teenage stuff on a daily basis. We didn't get on each others nerves all the time. Thus when we did get together, we all were on our best behaviour.

Sarah (whom I'm closest to and I who I consider my BFF) and I did go through a rough patch during year 11 when we wern't communicating well. But we got over that. She eventually moved closer to her school and I think we are even closer now. We make more effort to get together and talk a lot on the phone.

You have to work hard at friendships. But after the night we had, it was totally worth it. I can see us all getting together as old ladies and gossiping about stuff.

And that's a nice thought.
